Gemini Season
May 21 – June 20
As an air sign, Gemini finds its home in the abstract spaces of the mind, where thoughts and ideas are exchanged and expanded upon. Its energy is expansive, ever searching for deeper meaning and connection, energized by discovery and spontaneity.
Gemini understands the importance of connection through curiosity and examination. By pulling things apart and viewing them from multiple perspectives, clarity emerges. As we continue exploring the Wheel of Fortune through the month of May, this branching outward and returning to center is mirrored. By engaging with the many choices and opportunities available to us, we can better align ourselves with the course of the Wheel and our purpose instead of working against them. Gemini expresses this push and pull through its dual nature.
Gemini & The Tarot
Each zodiac sign is associated with a collection of tarot cards. For Gemini, these are The Lovers and the Eight, Nine, and Ten of Swords. These cards reveal the tension between the heart and the mind as we work to align ourselves with what we most want and need in life while navigating the mental weight of those decisions.
The Lovers
An often misunderstood card, The Lovers isn’t just about finding a soulmate. While it does represent partnership, attraction, and connection, these themes don’t only apply to intimate relationships. The Lovers represents the paths we feel drawn to at our core, and how we choose to merge our lives with them in a harmonious way.
It is often a choice between head and heart: again, the duality of Gemini reflected through the image of the twins. Each functions independently of one another, but when truly aligned, the result is balance, trust, and genuine partnership.
The Wheel of Fortune turns regardless of our position, and at times it can feel as though it’s moving against us. But when our actions match our intentions, that resistance begins to dissolve. This isn’t always a clean or straightforward process, however. As we move along the larger path of the Wheel, new possibilities emerge along the way. Our hearts, overtaken by passion in the moment, might pull us off course. Or our minds, stubborn or fearful of change, could keep us from shifting direction when necessary. Gemini energy asks us to remain aware of these dualities and learn how to navigate them while continuing to move forward.
The Decans of Gemini
The three decans of a sign tell a story about how that sign’s energy plays out in lived experience. For Gemini, this story is illustrated through the Eight, Nine, and Ten of Swords. These are cards that many people shrink away from when they appear in a reading. Gemini is a highly cerebral sign, and these cards reflect the ways the mind can sometimes work against us.
While The Lovers shows us balance and harmony, these cards show the challenge of reconciling rational thought with emotional response.
They ask us:
What fears or assumptions are shaping our choices?
What mental patterns are asking to be addressed?
What truths become clearer when we stop trying to predict every outcome?
The Eight of Swords
Hesitation, frozen, paralyzed…This card appears when something is preventing us from seeing a situation clearly. It represents the mental barriers we construct that keep us immobilized and unable to move forward in meaningful ways. Often, these are fears or projections that distort our perception of our own capabilities.
We may already possess the means to escape, but the mind has trapped itself. At this stage, the chains exist largely within the mind and can be overcome through facing those fears and reclaiming autonomy.
The Nine of Swords
This card shows the progression of the Eight of Swords if left unchecked. Both cards suggest a situation shaped by the mind, but in the Nine of Swords those effects begin seeping into the physical world through symptoms like sleeplessness, high anxiety, and phobias.
In this state, we have drifted further away from the things that bring us happiness, health, and balance. The remedy remains the same, though: acknowledging the power of the mind and recognizing that these fears are often distortions of reality. In this case, outside support may be necessary, and this card can point toward seeking help from a doctor, therapist, or support group.
The Ten of Swords
A card of endings, the Ten of Swords illustrates the final outcome of the previous cards if they continue unchecked. It represents a total mental and physical collapse and a complete disconnect from reason and emotion. It is the point at which the mind can no longer rationalize the pain, leading to feelings of defeat or the need to surrender.
While the trauma of this card is profound, it also provides an opportunity to rebuild with greater clarity once the dust has settled and grief has been processed. With everything else stripped away, the Ten of Swords ultimately carries the possibility of liberation and renewed autonomy.
Gemini and its tarot cards teach us how powerful the mind can be, and how necessary it is to maintain balance between logic and emotion. When disconnected from feeling and intuition, the mind can spiral into endless “What Ifs” that can eventually lead to stagnation and ruin.
